1:29 And did not choose.

Αρετη, quasi αιρετη: Αγαθον, quasi αγαν θεατον.

“Refuse the evil, and choose the good.” {#Isa 7:16}

“Choose the things that please God”; {#Isa 56:4}

“that wherein he delights.” {#Isa 65:12}

Such a choice made Moses; {Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Heb 11:25} and Joshua; { And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord; Jos 24:15} and Mary. {But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her; Lu 10:42}
